Begin your adventure in Jakarta, Indonesia’s lively capital, before heading deep into the rainforests of Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo. An early morning flight takes you to Pangkalan Bun, the gateway to Tanjung Puting National Park. From Kumai, board a traditional houseboat and cruise along the Seikonyer River, spotting proboscis monkeys, macaques, and colourful birdlife. Witness an orangutan feeding at Tanjung Harapan.
Over the next two days, explore the park’s renowned rehabilitation centres. Trek into the rainforest at Camp Leakey to watch orangutans at feeding time and take part in a tree-planting initiative at Tanjung Harapan Camp, contributing to conservation efforts. At Pondok Tanggui, enjoy a close encounter with rehabilitated orangutans, before visiting a local village, and later marvelling at the magical glow of fireflies above the Nipa palms. Evenings are spent dining and sleeping aboard your comfortable houseboat, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
Your journey continues with a cultural experience in Pangkalan Bun. Visit a traditional Dayak longhouse and learn about the heritage of Kalimantan’s indigenous people. Explore Istana Kuning, the “Yellow Palace,” stroll the Arut riverfront, and discover daily life at the markets and fishing spots. The next morning, fly back to Jakarta for your onward international departure, carrying unforgettable memories of orangutans, rainforest adventures, and cultural encounters.
