Begin the day with a delicious breakfast before heading to Amboseli National Park. It is famous for its diverse wildlife, including a variety of large mammals like African elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and many species of birds. The park is especially renowned for its large herds of elephants, and you can often witness them up close as they move across the open plains. Post breakfast, we drive from Amboseli to Nairobi Airport & take a flight to the famed Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Maasai Mara, located in southwestern Kenya, is a wildlife reserve renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and the annual Great Migration of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores. The reserve is part of the larger Mara-Serengeti ecosystem, offering a stunning landscape of vast plains, acacia-dotted savannahs, and meandering rivers. Maasai Mara is home to an impressive array of wildlife, including the "Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros), as well as cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, and various antelope species.

Begin with the option of a dawn hot air balloon ride (additional cost), where you'll soar above the sweeping plains, witnessing the sunrise casting a golden glow over the savannah. This magical experience provides a unique perspective of the wildlife below.

Afterward, engage in two exhilarating safaris, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. With expert guides, venture deep into the heart of Maasai Mara, tracking the movements of majestic lions, graceful giraffes, and the myriad of other wildlife that call this vast expanse home. The Mara's diverse ecosystems, from grassy plains to riverbanks, offer a chance to encounter the "Big Five" and witness the incredible spectacle of the Great Migration if the timing aligns.

Hot Air Balloon ride in Maasai Mara

Enjoy a Hot Air Balloon Safari over the Mara River, plains and forests of the Masai Mara.

4X4 safari vehicles will pick you from your camp or lodge between 0400-0530AM and drive you to the launch site, to arrive by 0600AM. Depending on the weather conditions, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you watch the balloons being prepared for take-off. Your pilot will give a safety briefing as well as explain what you can expect during the flight. There are basic toilet facilities available at the launch site.

The balloon crew will assist as you clamber into your balloon basket for take-off just before sunrise, at about 6:30AM. As you rise the Maasai Mara plains opens up before your eyes to feast on the golden sunrise, enchanting sceneries, plains-game below as the winds gently blows the basket deeper into the reserve. The pilot is at hand pointing out at the wildlife below with plenty of photographic opportunities unfolding. Soar silently with 360 degrees of spectacular savannah lasting approximately one hour, depending on wind conditions.

Upon landing, observe the complete deflation of the balloon envelope as our vehicles wait for you for a short drive to your morning hearty meal.

Our breakfast is set up on the picturesque savannah plains of the Mara, typically under the shade of a single balanite tree. Sit down to a full bush breakfast in the Kenyan style, complete with eggs-to-order, sausages, fresh juices, fruits, cereals and, of course, sparkling wine. After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely game drive back to your camp.

Another day in Maasai Mara

For most, a day is insufficient to soak up the splendour and beauty of the Mara region. Enjoy a rewarding jeep safari through the Mara for another close quarter encounter with the fauna and other unexplored areas of the wildlife reserve Post lunch, visit a typical Maasai village and immerse yourself in the world of one of the most unique and remarkable tribes. Learn about their traditional beliefs, culture and the way they have coexisted and lived harmoniously in this animal environment.

Explore the traditional Maasai homes and be amazed by their knowledge of various plants and trees that hold healing properties. Head back to the lodge where you can relax and reinvigorate yourself with some panoramic views of the Reserve. Tuck into some delectable food for dinner before you call it a day.

The tour starts and ends in Nairobi. So you should arrive in Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Airport code is NBO.

All foreign travellers will require a valid passport to enter Kenya. The passport should have a validity for at least six months beyond the completion of travel. Most travellers will require a visa for entry into Kenya. Generally you are able to apply for an e-visa online at https://evisa.go.ke/ . If you are not eligible, please check with the nearest Embassy or Consulate as immigration laws are very strict and entry may be refused. Each passenger must be personally responsible for ensuring she/he possesses valid travel documentation. If you will like assistance with your visa, please write to [email protected]

Yes, private arrival and departure airport transfers are included in all JrnyOn tours between the airport and the tour hotel. These transfers will be shared with other members of your tour if it is a Social or JrnyMaestro trip.

There are no activities scheduled on Day 1 of the trip. So you can arrive anytime. Hotel check in time varies and generally will be around 14:00pm.

We are flying from Maasai Mara to Nairobi on the last day morning. Our flight should arrive in Nairobi by 12noon. So please make sure your international flights are booked late in the afternoon or evening, giving 3 or 4 hours time in between.

Please read through the itinerary in detail. Overall for the tour on a scale from 1 - 5, a fitness level of 2 would be ideal. You are on a safari and depending on where and when you see the wild animals, you will be on uncomfortable dirt roads for long durations.

Please refer to the daily activities in the itinerary, where the driving distance and duration for each day is given. However you are on a Safari and depending on where the animals are, you will be driving for hours on uncomfortable dirt roads. So be ready!

Yellow fever vaccination certificate are required for travellers aged 1 year or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission and for travellers having transited for more than 12 hours through an airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.

We advise you to check with your local health clinic or doctors a few weeks before your trip for proper recommendations.

The local guides and drivers are an essential part of your tour. It is always a good gesture to reward them with gratuities if you are appreciative of their services. Hotels and restaurants do not add a service charge onto bills. Tipping is at your discretion.

For travel to Kenya during June to August, please carry a light jacket and sweaters. For the rest of the summer, casual adaptable clothing as per your comfort is good.
