A Day in Tbilisi

Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia since the 5th century AD, boasts a rich history. It was a key political, economic, and cultural hub of the Middle East, located on the Silk Road at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.

Tbilisi’s Old Town showcases a unique blend of cultures, with mosques, synagogues, Armenian, Roman Catholic, and Georgian churches coexisting harmoniously. Its wooden houses with carved balconies and historic sulfur baths have welcomed notable figures for centuries.

Walk around Metekhi, is a historic neighborhood of Tbilisi, Georgia, located on the elevated cliff that overlooks the Mtkvari river. The neighborhood is home to the eponymous Metekhi Church of Assumption. The district was one of the earliest inhabited areas on the city’s territory. Next up, Abanotubani, the ancient district of Tbilisi, Georgia, known for its sulphuric baths.

Then, head to Narikala, an ancient fortress overlooking Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and the Mtkvari River. The fortress consists of two walled sections on a steep hill between the sulphur baths and the botanical gardens of Tbilisi. On the lower court there is the recently restored St Nicholas church.

Other stops in the walking tour include the Peace Bridge, Anchiskhati Church, the National Museum (closed Mondays), Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue. Meals for the day are at traditional restaurants in the city.

Day Trip to Stepantsminda & Mtskheta

We start the day early and embark on a day out to the Caucasus Mountains. Travel to Gudauri ski resort, cross the Jvari Pass (2395m), and descend to Kazbegi (Stepantsminda, 1700m), a picturesque settlement beneath Mount Kazbek (5047m). Enjoy a 1-hour 15-minute uphill trek, followed by lunch and exploration of the town.

On return to Tbilisi, visit Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital (20km from Tbilisi), dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. We try and cater to other diet restrictions as much as possible. But, we do focus on regional local cuisine. So there will be limitations. Please write to [email protected] with your booking number in the subject line to inform us well in advance of any such restrictions.

Please refer to the daily activities in the itinerary, where the driving distance and duration for each day are given. The longest drive in this tour approx 4 hrs (depending on traffic) which includes many stops for sightseeing and lunch.

For travel in Georgia from Nov to March, please carry all the winter essentials (Jackets with hoodies, sweaters, turtlenecks, warm gloves & pants, etc. LAYERING is a great way. If you trap air in several layers of clothing, you have a better chance of staying warm than if you wear one or two very heavy items. For the rest of the summer, casual adaptable clothing as per your comfort is good. There are restaurants in Georgia, where you might enjoy dressing up a bit. So adding some nice evening wear to your travel wardrobe will be a nice idea.

The weather in Georgia from June to August ranges from 23 – 32 °C while April, September, and October ranges from 14 - 17 °C. From November to March, the temperature ranges from 3 - 7 °C.
